Overberg BMX riders started their racing year on a high note with a skills clinic presented by South Africa’s #1 rider Alex Limberg and #5 Wanga Moshani. The youngsters who attended the clinic were overawed at the skills of these professional riders and learnt a lot during the clinic.
“We’re thrilled these elite sportsmen took the time and initiative to come and motivate and train our children,” said Birgitta Weaving. “Living in a small coastal town such as Hermanus, we are often excluded from mainline events and sports champion visits which is what made this clinic even more thrilling. We got to meet and learn from the best of the best in South Africa.”
Support was also provided on the day by Fabian Valsecchi of Fabian’s Bicycle Transport and many of the parents.
Overberg BMX Club Chairman Rickus Muller said he was delighted that so many people are committed to growing the sport of BMX racing. “In less than a year, with the help of our community, our track has transformed at a significant pace and our riders are becoming stronger and more confident. Wouldn’t it be a dream come true if some of our riders qualify for the Olympics someday?’
